Chemical characterization of some urban and industrial residues viewing to assess their potential as substrates for coffee seedlings development

Abstract

The basic assumption of this work was that some of the urban and industrial wastes should be considered as possible substrates for the development of coffee seedlings. Four of these wastes were considered in this study : () urban domicile garbage (Lixo), (2) biodigesters residues (LB), (3) diatomaceous soil (Td), and (4) sugar cane industrialization spinoffs (T + V). These residues were used to represent 0, 0, 20, and 30% of the total substrate volume. The treatments including the residues had neither limestone nor inorganic fertilizer. The check treatment was formed by a substrate traditionally recommended for the purpose of producing coffee seedlings. Seedling evaluation took place 20 days after seed sowing. The best results were obtained when either diatomaceous soil, or sugarcane industrialization spinoffs, or domicile garbage were used to compose the substrates.Additional keywords: biossolids; urban garbage; industrial residues.
