The determination of the total dry biomass accumulation of the plant and its parts throughout the cycle can be used to verify the productive potential of common bean genotypes. The objective of this work was to determine the influence of the accumulation of shoot biomass on the productivity of common bean cultivars. Seven cultivars were evaluated under irrigation, BRS FC414, BRS FC415, BRS FC423, BRS FC402, BRS FC416, BRSMG Amuleto, and BRSMG Uai, in a randomized block design with four replications, in the 2022 winter season, in Santo Antônio de Goiás, GO. Growth analysis was carried out throughout the cycle and grain yield and harvest index were quantified. Cultivars were clustered into quadrants according to grain yield and shoot biomass, using a scatterplot, and classified as more or less productive. The most productive cultivars accumulated a greater amount of shoot biomass and developed greater leaf area throughout the common bean cycle. Considering the relationship between grain yield and harvest index, the cultivars BRS FC416 and BRSMG Amuleto were the most efficient in allocating photosynthates to grains, while the cultivars BRS FC414 and BRSMG Uai were the least efficient. It is concluded that shoot biomass accumulation and the maintenance of a high leaf area throughout the growth cycle are key factors for higher grain yield and can be used as auxiliary criteria in the selection of common bean cultivars with higher productive potential.
